I love the food here and the never knowing what will be out but it will be good. Ate there yesterday (Tuesday) and the food was nice and spicy. I love the Halwa and don't mind it on my main plate. Halwa stuffed into a puri....ummmmm.

I love coming to Higher Taste and try to make it here at least once a week. As a previous reviewer pointed out, one of the attractive things about coming here is that the food would be hard to make at home. I've tried to replicate some dishes at home, and couldn't get them as nice by half!
My favourite thing is the paneer in tomato gravy and I always pile up the roast potatoes, fresh salads and vegetable curries, puri and pappadoms. I agree with a previous reviewer that it is a big odd to mix the halwa in with your main dinner, but that's how they do it in India, I'm told. The people are happy to provide me with a separate plate for the halwa anyway.
Generally I find the service to be very good. I think that a few of the people working here are shy rather than grumpy and this might be cultural. Remember that Higher Taste is a restaurant that wholly serves the Hare Krishna movement so there might be a religious element of modesty in the service. I find all the people who work here to be pleasant.
I've given it no marks for presentation because you serve yourself.
I haven't experienced the roast potatoes being burnt before but they are very dark in appearance, which makes them look like they could be burnt. This is because they're roasted in a soy sauce and spice coating - I asked about it. I think they are really delicious.
I haven't tried much of the cabinet food but my husband is a fan of the pies and I like the pakoras a lot.
I think my review of this restaurant is pretty balanced - I'm a fairly fussy eater and eat out a lot, and this place just keeps me coming back. I'd recommend it if you're a fan of Indian food, vegetarian food or just a filling, tasty, cheap meal. It is what it is.

I have been here several times and have never had anything to complain about. The food is amazing and varies nicely day to day. The great thing about it is it is the kind of food that would be very hard to do at home and well worth trying.

Love this place!
The food is superb. Perfect for a cold Wellington day. I'm a regular here and have never had any complaints. Recommend it to everyone.

Self serve buffet has hot food but it is not hot it is warm (same with the pastries in the warmer cabinet) and people lean right in and over the buffet food talking when helping themselves. The food is very fatty and not very flavourful with minimal seasoning. The curry sauce on the tofu is very oily being mostly ghee fat and the pudding dessert was also very oily and very sweet - you could squash it with your spoon and clear ghee ran out. The deep fried potatoes were burnt. The bread was fried cold and oily, the poppadams were fried and very oily. The vegetable curry was short on veg being mostly potato.

The food is delicious here from the hot self serve to the cabinet food..I love the curd steaks and pakoras. Yes, reasonable prices, you can find your plate over filling with food piled skyhigh, tho not a fan of piling dessert - halava with your mains and soup...ha ha.. Service is ok, can get very busy during lunch times. I did attempt breakfast one morning to find the place was late to open.
