After time in the doldrums of being nothing more than strictly average at best when it came to food (the excellent Wanaka-roasted Venus coffee though means that this has long been one of the best coffee stops in Wanaka), it seems that Relishes has had something of a turnaround and is back on form.
An interesting and concise menu appealed to all around the tabl and we all thought our meals excellent (seafood chowder the standout starter), though the calamari starter was slightly soft and flabby.
Excellent service and a very modest corkage charge for BYO (always a big tick), great to know there's another on-form restaurant in town. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

My partner and I were in Wanaka 2 weekends ago, and on our last morning there we stopped into Relishes for breakfast.
The staff were friendly, and we were seated straight away with drink orders taken promptly after. My partner claimed his flatwhite was amoung the best he had ever had (and he is quite picky) and he loved his english style breakfast (perfect mushrooms). I ordered the lemon and riccotta pancakes, and my word they were amazing! Beautifully presented, the bananas left in their skins a great touch!
What a great end to a fantastic weekend away! We will definately be back next time were in Wanaka :) Thank you Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I went to Relishes on Friday night for a meal with eight others. The restaurant was packed and we were glad we had made a booking. We ordered the breads to start, but unfortunately they did not arrive. The wine we ordered also took a long time to finally arrive at the table. In terms of meals though, these did arrive quickly and were good. I had the wild rabbit and whilst a little tough (although not totally unexpected for wild game) it was a nice dish. A number of others had the tuna and thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert I had a bread and butter pudding which looked a little lonely on the plate but was tasty. The restaurant had a good vibe and I would happily return. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We went to Relishes for a special meal and were disappointed in more than one way. Drinks service was so slow, we had to interrupt a passing waitress on two ocassions to ask for more drinks. An empty bottle was taken from our table without any offer of getting another one. The meal was 'nice' but small portions - for the price! My rack of lamb was the equivalent of three chop bones with tiny eye-muscle, cooked nicely but meager in size. The special fish dish which cost $31 - hardly a bargain, was served on a small bed of rice with a hint of other vege nearby. It left my husband far from satisfied. But to top things off, our evening was completely interrupted by the customer who arrived shortly after us, was seated at the table next to us, and proceeded to use his table and the restaurant as his office! A file of papers was spread out on his table and he noisily went about his business - hardly an ideal dining atmosphere for the rest of us. This bloke got good service though - maybe a friend. We won't be going back anytime soon but will choose other fine dining options in Wanaka. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

My sister and I went to Relishes for a special dinner. We treated ourselves to entrees, mains and desserts, all of which were fantastic. The staff's knowledge of the wine was fantastic, evidence of some well earned after shift staffies!? Our entrees took a short while to come out, just as our tummies were starting to rumble we were served. Mains arrived in a more timely manner, as did the desserts. Everything was spectacular. My only suggestion would be that the waiting staff communicate a bit better between themselves, we seemed to have 4 different waitresses, I'd rather have one person taking care of us, prevents any miscommunication between customer, staff and kitchen (not that we had any problems, but we did get asked the same questions by the 4 girls). Overall, it was a great evening. Will definately return! Thanks Relishes Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

The bacon & eggs were very good. The coffee was OK. We will return when next in Wanaka. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook« There are reviews older than 18 months, click here to show them » Add your review to Relishes Cafe6,197 views
