My daughters took me for my birthday. Fabulous venue & staff, pity the food let it down. I had always wanted to go there & as my daughters gave me a choice of any restaurant in Auckland, this was my pick. Unfortunately apart from that mentioned above I was REALLY disappointed. The entree which was chosen by 2 of us was luke warm when it should have been hot, the biggest downfall was the fish, I don't expect to visit a high class restaurant & find myself having to pick bone upon bone from my fish dish. Would not visit again.

With so many high quality restaurants in Auckland to choose from, what made you want to go to this place?

Agree with last reviewer. I went here a couple of years ago and it is still the same amazing food, service and atmosphere. For entrees we had the squid dish and prawn dish. This time my partner took me out to dinner. the prawn dish was cold (it was meaant to be, but the flavour was sacraficed) so the squid won that round. For mains we had the chicken and duck. Both were great again, but the duck had a better flavour. So the duck won that round. I chose the best dishes naturally! we shared the glace nougaut for dessert. it was a generous portion and was delicious - a slab of ice cream nougaut with candy floss on top. And the wine is delicious too. You get what you pay for!!

We had a meal at Mikano last night as it was my birthday. We could not find fault in anything, the service was excellent, the food was fantastic and we had entrees, mains and dessert!, the bottle of wine, well it was Pinot from Central Otago was just lovely. A very enjoyable evening from start to finish. We will be again thats for sure. If you want to take someone special for a lovely meal and feel spoilt then this is the place.

We went here one night after work, as it was only just gone 6pm the place was pretty quiet. We got a great window seat which afforded us front row viewing of the helipad, the helicopters were coming and going throughout our meal which provided for some entertainment on the side. The food was outstanding, my partner is a huge salmon fan so he chose that, I'm not so much a seafood eater so I went for the pork, which was great. The restaurant is designed around the kitchen, so you can see and hear all the goings on, quite interesting. We'll be back for sure. The menu has changed to summer since we went last year so we've got a reason to get back there soon.

Unfortunately we had to wait for our table and then we were forgotten about as they were extremely busy. So about an hour later we were seated. Despite knowing they had forgotten us we had to wait another long time before being asked for our order. Despite this our meals were lovely and the bar staff were excellent.

I chose Mikano for my birthday meal and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The views from the restaurant are diverse from the hectic goings on at the port next door, to helicopters taking off and landing right outside the window, and topped off with stunning views over to Devonport and the Gulf. The food was pretty spectacular as well. We chose the mixed grill seafood platter for two, a smorgasboard of beautifully prepared seafood. The highlight for me were the most succulent oysters, though the rest of the meal was also excellent. Plenty of food for two, no need for starters or desserts, so at $95 great value for such good food. Will most definitely return and highly recommended.

A group of us dined here as we were visiting friends in Parnell and their house overlooks Mikano, it was Friday night and didnt seem to be that busy but it didnt matter because the view was amazing and while we were dining a helicopter took off and landed right outside our window (thats great entertainment for me as im half way through doing my pilots), anyway we orded a bread platter or antipasto i think it was to start which came with all the good stuff like pesto, parma ham etc and while we were enjoying it a garlic bread showed up that wasnt ours and was quickly removed while i was eating it lol, oh well it was nice while it lasted, for the mains i had the smoked fish thingy as i was feeling rather sea worthy and it was lovely with a nice salad and white sauce, my wife had the lamb and said she really enjoyed it, only one of us had a dessert and they said it was tasty, we loved the wines and overall had a great night and i would imagine this place would be great for a function with the huge windows and amazing views.

My beloved's birthday (with the added bonus on an Entertainment Card) inspired the visit to Mikano and what a birthday treat it was!
It was a sunny-ish Sunday afternoon and we were seated by the window where we got to enjoy the fantastic Auckland harbour view.
We chose to share the smoked kahawai for our entree. Served with warm breads, a delicious aioli, butter and salad it was nicely filling and tasted divine!
For our mains we chose the blackened tuna and the snapper. My partner literally could not talk while he ate his tuna, he loved it that much. It was served with a white gazpacho sauce which I kept stealing from his plate because it was sooooo good! My snapper was cooked to perfection and the potato, olive, artichoke, pesto salad was the perfect accompaniment.
To top off the delicious meal I ordered the twice baked chocolate souffle. The fellow reckoned he was too full for dessert but he managed to sneak a bite or four of this amazing dessert.
In a nutshell, the service was attentive but not obtrusive, the scenery gorgeous, and the food has to be some of the best I've ever eaten.
And to top it off they didn't scratch the Entertainment Card number so we can enjoy this amazing food at a discounted price again!

Decided to give Mikano a whirl, as we have an Entertainment Book Card. The entrees & mains did not disappoint. I was feeling adventurous & tried the honey soy quail, which was delicious & generous in size. I had the lamb for the main & they were obliging enough to change the veges that came with the dish for me. The only downside was they forgot one of the sides we ordered & while they had a lot of wait staff, it was hard to get anyone's attention when you needed them. On the final note the creme brulee was excellent & dessert wine made an delectable match. Additional bonus of the evening was they aren't scratching out Entertainment Card numbers this month, so we stilled saved 25% & can return again for round two! Thanks Mikano for a lovely evening.

Had a wonderful meal at Mikano! Exceptional food and service. Had the Pumpkin Tortellini and calamari as entrees; Pan-fried snapper and Roast Pork belly as mains. Service was great, and had nice view over the water. Would definitely return!

Had an amazing night out we were lucky to see a helicopter leave and come back twice. The reflection on the water was amazing and the service wasnt to bad how ever our waiter a young gentalman took a while to take down our order. But over all Mikano is my favourite restaurant in Auckland City

I've eaten at Mikano a few times and as on previous visits, last nights was superb.
I ordered the duck which was cooked to perfection and my girlfriend had the lamb which was also superb.
I also tried the side of garlic rosemary potatoes which were near perfection.
Service was great, the location is still fun with helicopters landing and taking off while we ate.
Finally I must add that I don't drink and normally the non-alcoholic drinks are pretty average at most restaurants. Not so this time, the barman made me the best lemon, lime and bitters I've ever had...and I've had a lot.
Mikano's been around a while and for good reason. They consistently do great food in a cool location. I'll be back.

Expecations where high, so I guess I found the resturant to be a little overrated, especially on the service front.
The view of course are exceptional, especially when the helicpter takes off.
The food was beautiful and was well presented/enjoyed.
The toilets I found to be a bit of a hassle going down stairs and not at the high standard I would have expected at a place like this.
The rsturant was pcked, but the service was not what I would have expected from a high grade resturant liie thisone, waiting time was at times long. And to top off the evning I heard th couple next to us query their bill, so I said we had better check our one – just as well as there was errors on it. Manager was busy having a good old chat to friends or regulars, and was not at all apologic for the errors in our bill – not very exceptable for a place like this.
I think lifing up the “customer service” levels swould have made for a better dining experience.

Why would you comment on a restaurant manager talking to regulars? If you went there more often, maybe you'd also be treated with friendly familiarity - afterall, that's what makes people go back to a place isn't it, feeling welcomed by people who recognise you and make you feel special. That's why I always go back to the same old places.......... maybe that's just me! :)Login to vote Yes, a great reviewx0This review should be deletedx0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook
