I don't want to resort to superlatives but I have to. This restaurant, part of the Raetihi Lodge, but open to casual diners is just WOW. The setting is fabulous, indoor/outdoor seating dependant on the weather. Our day in January 2016 was beautiful. The staff are so welcoming and genuinely friendly. Audrey, the lassie from Scotland as our server, plus John from the UK on drinks. The Lodge owner Liane Campbell also made her self known to us.We travelled to the Lodge by the lodge outboard boat from Te Mahia situated on the opposite of Keneperu Sound. The cost $30 per couple return which is reasonable. You can drive in but that is at least 3 hours from Blenheim. The food ! Just fabulous. We were there for the lunch menu. My choice the Prime Angus Beef Burger with house pickles, smoked cheddar, tomato chutney, and chunky fries. $23. If there is a better burger on this planet tell me. Other dishes, Duck Liver Parfait, spiced port jelly, cornichons, local greens, $16. Blue Cod, chips and Salad. Home made Tartare sauce $25. ( the cod had only stopped wriggling it was so fresh). Caesar Salad, streaky bacon, garlic croutons, poached free range egg, grant padano, aioli dressing $22. All meals declared delicious. Accompanied by wine and beer. Dessert, Affogato chosen by all 4 of us with personal liqueur choice, $14. I cannot find the words to describe the location or the food, STUNNING is the best I can do. If you are in the area it is a must. This is the highest review I have written for a restaurant and I have rated over 160 or so.
