This was our first visit to Cazador and actually our first time at a game restaurant we absolutely loved it! And will most definitely be back. The staff are lovely and friendly and the food .. wow it is divine! Would highly recommend the Wild Rabbit.

We went here last night after hearing all the hype and reading the reviews. We had unsuccessfully tried to book for the previous two weekends but they were full each time, so we thought this boded well for our dinner.
We started off with the Nan-E-Bakhshi (the persian flat bread stuffed with parmesan pesto and baked with cheese). It was delicious, although perhaps a little small. My partner got the soup (which was duck and pumpkin) which was another hit - really delicious with a lot of subtle flavours. We also got the dolma, which were a little too hot still but again, really good.
For our mains, my partner ordered the baked pheasant, which he said was good, but small. I got the pollo loco, and we got sides of rice and veges. So glad we got the sides otherwise all you get is just the meat. Unfortunately, my chicken was pretty below par. For $24.90, I got a ramekin of chicken casserole, which was literally just chicken in sauce (no onion, garlic or any other vege). The sauce was very good but the chicken was overcooked, tough and rubbery. It tasted like it had been cooked and then microwaved. Pretty disappointing, so I didn't finish it.
Because of that, we were pretty hungry still so splashed out and got 3 desserts - the halva, the chocolate mousse and the turkish figs. The halva came on a generous plate with whipped cream from a can and kiwifruit slices (a bit 80's). I thought it was too bitter but my partner liked it. The chocolate mousse again came topped with canned cream and kiwifruit. The mousse itself was very rich and bittersweet, while still light and almost fluffy in texture. It was very good. The Turkish marinated figs were not that great. I have made this dish myself and the key is to marinate it long enough that the figs rehydrate and are soft to eat. My figs were partially hydrated, and pretty tough. I didn't finish them.
The service was very good the whole way through, with our water glasses constantly topped up and attentive staff. However we were a bit disappointed and did not think the restaurant lived up to the hype so we probably won't be going back.

The Cazador is a restaurant for customers between 45 and 90 years old;if you are not in this category of age don't go there!
The interior design is made of stuffed animals showing that the tenant apparently love hunting and taxidermy.
The service is fast if you bokked your table in advance or if you are part of the category of age, otherwise you have to wait and expect to be called "Maaaaam" a thousand time when talking to the waiter.
The wine list is ok,the food is average and the presentation as nothing special but the interesting point is that no side is including in the main meaning that all the meats and fish are a main by themselves....no nothing with...
At the end of your dinner you will just think that it was a one time at this place cause after a while you will forget everything about this place and you will not want to remember it neither!

Cazador is a regular favourite... we live just down the road, and love going (about 5 time a year normally).
We love taking out-of-towners, friends & family, and also going as a couple.
The service and food are fantastic; they have a huge menu, so it's great to try new things (and sometimes go back to the old favourites!).
I'd recommend this restaurant to any meat-lover; probably not a place to take a vegetarian on a first date! :o)

I've eaten here a few times over the past year or so and while the decor is definately dated, the place has a homey feel about it, the hosts are so welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. It's BYO which I love. I've tried most things on the menu (as I steal or beg bites from my companions plates) and have enjoyed all of it. I'm a huge fan of their wild pork and chicken dishes.
Portions are very generous, so make sure you're hungry :)
I love this place, now that I'm living in Auckland I'm sure I'll get back there more often.

I took my fiance there for his birthday on Thursday as he is a massive fan of Tonys and from the first phone call to reserve a table to the time we left Cazador, I was very impressed. Both Tony and Barbara were lovely people to talk to and made us feel at home straight away. The food was exceptional - I have never tasted wild pork the way Tony presented it to us - it was awesome!! We travelled from Gisborne for the Cazador experience and we were blown away. Thanks to Tony, Barbara and the team for a lovely evening!! Nga mihi nui ki a koutou!

I had my 30th at Cazador on Friday night. Right from my initial phone call to make a reservation through to when we paid the final bill and left, the service from Barbara and her staff was exceptional. First, I left a message on the voicemail and my call was returned promptly the next morning. Then, I was wanting to take a large group of 30 out for dinner and was unsure about how to arrange the set menu and a price per head, however Barbara gave me great advice on how to run it. I had a couple of questions which I emailed through, and again my emails were all responded to within an hour or so. Great communication! The night ran beautifully, the food was amazing, the service was exceptional, & everything was taken care of so well. The atmosphere in the place is great too, its really comfortable to walk around and mingle, and go through to the bar area and the nice garden out the back. I'm really grateful to the team at Cazador for making it a night to remember for myself and my friends. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to arrange a special night for a group.
