Arrived here hungry for a delicious curry. Greeted warmly and shown to table. Lacking in comfort seats and low on ambience wasn't the best start. However the charming staff and welcome gestures from the chef kept us there. On ordering we thought the menu a little limited but hey ho maybe for the better however when the microwaving began we became a little concerned. The food was ok not heated right through sometimes and the tastes were ok too. We won't rush back but the service was of note; enthusiatic and helpful and very good; pity really the service outshone the food.

Recent experience here has been for takeaways only as the restaurant itself is a bit sterile and always seems to be empty. We have dined in twice but there are better options if you are looking for some ambience. That said, the food is always consistently good. That's probably because a lot of it is preprepared elsewhere to a standard recipe and then reheated in saucepans at the front cook station.
My standout is the beef vindaloo - always really rich and flavourful and suffiently hot. Works well with a raita on the side just to take the edge off. The rogan josh has a strong aniseed flavour, probably fennel seed, and also very good. They've changed the dahl recipie a few times - I liked the tarka dahl but it has been replaced by an even better dahl maharaja - this is a lucious garlicky, creamy dahl and also works really well alongside something strong like the vindaloo. Butter chicken is so so - the chunks of chicken don't have that strong tandoori flavour that I expect though the sauce is good. Most disappointing is the naan which can be a bit bland. I now get the wholemeal roti instead and even prefer that to too much rice.
I like the fact that the chef always has time for a quick chat and clearly recognises his regulars.

This is the only place I go for Indian takeaways, despite living 20 minutes drive away. I have never had a bad meal and their butter chicken and naan bread are fabulous. I usually order for at least 4 people and without fail they include more than I ordered (e.g. extra naan) at no extra cost.
My sister also loves this place and refuses to eat butter chicken made anywhere else.
