My husband and I went to Kurashiki this past weekend for the first time. It is an attractive restauarant, with some tables having decorative screens around them. The hot towels and complimentary tea were a nice touch. We ordered a number of dishes from the a la carte menu to share. Most were very good, and were served with accompanying tasty sauces. The unagi (grilled eel) was particularly delicious and succulent. The daikon radish salad was very crisp and refreshing. The only real disapointment was the vege tempura -- it had a nice array of vegetables, but the batter did not stick to them properly, it was lumpy and oily; I suspect the oil was not heated sufficiently before the veges were added to it. But all in all it was a good experience. The prices are moderate and the portions larger than I expected for the price. There is a wide selection of dishes in smaller sizes, so it is easy to share and try new things. I would recommend this restaurant as an enjoyable place to eat, with excellent service, a nice atmosphere and very fresh food.

We finally made it to Kurashiki, a place recommended by a Japanese friend - and yes, it is definitely the best Japanese restaurant for lunch (will have to go there for dinner, too!).
When first looking at the prices, we thought it was a big much for lunch - however we quickly realised it was well worth every cent!
Exquisite and very fresh Sashimi, a delicate and tasty grilled fish, with a warm salad, rice, miso soup and green tea.... I simply can't wait to go back!
I also enjoyed it immensely for other reasons: The environment was very authentic, the music soothing, hardly any other noises, and an exceptional service - we both felt rejuvenated and very relaxed when we left. And yes, maybe it is a "mistake" to rave about it, with more DineOut readers knowing about it - but Kurashiki deserves the praise - and hopefully soon more impressed and happy culinary connoisseurs!
