Went here for brunch on a Monday on the recommendation of a friend due to its close proximity to our hotel. Ordered:
Power breakfast (bacon, poached eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, a bit of salad)
Spanish breakfast (eggs, chorizo, potatoes, a bit of salad)
The two plates came out together and I was a bit confused whose was whose because the power breakfast had less stuff on it than the Spanish breakfast. I thought the power breakfast would be like any normal kiwi breakfast but it seems to have less things on it than normal. The power breakfast was ok overall, though the helping did seem small. I liked the Spanish breakfast as it had interesting additions like the chorizo and potatoes, can't say how filling it was as I didn't eat the whole thing (I was sharing).
Pricing was standard but not exactly value for money.

Felix: taking mediocrity to the next level.
Went for breakfast today. I had pancakes (passable), my partner had vege breakfast (piss poor, worst in Wellington).
It wasn't that it was poorly cooked (poached eggs were reasonable for instance), but it was what you got for $18: Two eggs, one slice of toast (they say Pandoro, but it sure looked like a slice of Freyas multigrain to me), a tomato (cold inside, unseasoned), two hash browns (not homemade, frozen ones), a single sliced flat mushroom and a small pile of baby spinach. And that's it!
We raised it with the waitress (the staff overall were ok), and she said sorry and raised it with the kitchen, but they didn't offer any kind of explanation for why it was so poorly put together, nor offer any kind of gesture, such as knocking the drinks off the bill.
Given the creativity of some of the other cafes in the City it was a very, very poor effort totally lacking in originality or imagination. Could have got away with it 15 years ago, but not today.
Big thumbs down for Felix.

I had lunch at Felix today with an old friend from overseas and was extremely dissapointed after boosting about our wonderful Wellington restaurants & cafes. The menu is very old fashioned and ho hum, and after asking for the wine list we wished we hadn't! and what sour unfriendly staff! Obviously they are not working in a happy environment. Service was very slow and when we did receive our lunch it was just plodded on the table without the staff member even looking at us. Food was not great and over priced for what we received & as for the toilets - shame on you. The tables are extremely close together and we felt like we were catching up with 4 strangers, no each other. Can not really work out why this cafe is so busy. We would NOT eat here again, and not recommend them to anyone

Looking at other reviews on here I think I will be avoiding this place. You wonder if the managers read these reviews - if so they should be talking to their staff.Login to vote Yes, a great reviewx0This review should be deletedx0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Grabbed lunch here yesterday, it wasn't that busy, so service was prompt. I ordered off the menu (there's lots of food in the cabinets too). Salmon bagel for $14. I was pretty disappointed with the value, anywhere else in town this would have cost $7 tops!. It had a miniscule dollop of cream cheese, 7 capers (yes, I did actually count them), and 2 slices of salmon. Not even any avocado. Come on Felix, any sane person would have looked at that in the kitchen and thought "we cant justify this". Shame on you.

Not an experience I wish to repeat. Bacon and eggs are pretty easy, I cook them at home regularly. However, every now and then I like to pay someone else to do it for me. You would assume that this person has taken the job by choice and might put a little care into it. But the slop that I was served could have been more competently put together by a five year old. And had it been we would not have been subject to the tirade of foul language emanating from the kitchen. This atmosphere is reflected in the sullen staff with their total lack of good humour. What a shame that it occupies such a prime piece of real estate.

My partner and I went for Sunday brunch and was delighted to see a familiar face as soon as we walked in. The barista, who has been working there for a very long time. Not sure of his name yet but the guy with the pony tail, he is always smiling and very well mannerd. My partner had the big breakfast as i opted for the sauteed mushrooms. Both meals were fantastic as were our coffees. The only downfall was the regular cursing and screaming comming from the kitchen. It was very busy while we were there, but left very satisfied and will definatley go back again. Great!

The rudest staff I have ever encountered.
We went for a Sunday breakfast.
As we were ignored when we entered we took it upon ourselves to take the only available table.
After placing our coffee orders with one staff member another approached us and declared “You’ll have to move, this is a table for four” (we were two).
When I said ‘excuse me?” he repeated himself just as rudely.
In hind sight we should have left. I think we were both too stunned by the way were treated to make that decision.
Food was average, coffee was poor.

Came here for brunch on a busy saturday around 12. Very busy we were worried about getting a table, however there were 2 available. The one we were put at was VERY close to the others, i felt like i was almost touching elbows with my neighbour. There was a piece of pasta on my chair and sugar all over the table - obviously hadnt been wiped down. And when we sat down they didn't apologise or wipe down the table when we were handed our menus. The coffee was good, fresh oj was quite strong but tasty and refreshing when having a hangover. I had the eggs florentine and my partner the eggs benedict. He thoroughly enjoyed his, however my spinach was very watery and the whole dish was quite bland I had to use a lot of salt and pepper. Reasonably priced overall, but we didn't feel like we wanted to have another coffee or sit and talk for a while, we left reasonably quickly after we finished. We were still slightly hungry after, so don't know whether we had large appetites that day or if it just wasn't filling enough. I would go back for a coffee probably, but not another meal.

We came on a weekday for an early meal before going to the theatre. I had the pasta of the day which was quite nice. We didn't have time for dessert. Nothing stood out from the experience but we were not disappointed so we will come back again another time.

We were lucky to find a table after ordering on a busy saturday morning. Everything was ok but our breakie arrived minus an OJ we ordered... Easy mistake the waiter apologised and got one asap. The food was pretty good - what you would expect! No nasty surprises so we left happy and full. I would definetly go back again.

Went to felix for sunday lunch with my partner and her son, things started off okay with fairly good coffee's, ordered 3 mixed grill breakfasts ..... the first two arrived in good time, so i let my partner and her son get started on theirs as i assumed mine would not be long... after about 10 minutes my partner enquired as to the whereabouts of the third meal and was told we had only ordered two, even the waiter who served us claimed we only ordered two, there was no way this could have been misunderstood as we clearly each ordered our own meals right down to how we preferred our eggs cooked.... as the meals were nearly finished we decided to leave rather than wait for another meal to be cooked...when it came time to pay the bill and i expressed my displeasure to the manager, there was no apology , no discount, just a rude blank silent stare...
I would not recommend this cafe if you expect a reasonable standard of service or even if you expect to get fed..... to add to the whole experience of Felix Cafe, during my companions meals and my enforced diet, we had to put up with the chef regularly abusing staff in front of patrons... a all over not nice experience ... will not be going back
