Came here after a function nearby for dinner last night, and thought the service was very good with quick, attentive staff and good table. The food was mixed. We shared stuffed chicken wings to begin with and thought they were quite bland. Then the basil chicken (hot and spicy) was really good, and my curry saramon described as Diced tender beef simmered in whole peanuts, coconut cream, lime leaves, galangal, coriander seeds and carrots was dreadful.
The flavour was there but the meat so tough it was impossible to eat.Bit disappointing really Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Having been here once before, we chose to have our team lunch here on Friday. We were seated very quickly. I ended up sitting next to this statue of a naked woman.. Perhaps a straight mans dream, not so much mine. Anyway, after the shock of what was staring at me the whole time i was there passed we ordered, and sadly we were a little disappointed. The chicken salad had a lot of flavours going on, and was kinda thrown together with leftovers. well thats how it seemed. There was a piece of onion in it, and a piece of normal cabbage, and then a bit of celery. it was edible, but more because i wouldnt be paying $18 for nothing. My colleagues mainly enjoyed the pork, and said they'd go back so hats off to them..toilets were very clean. Review Feedback by: baristaofnz (27) 5th May 2010 Funny, I was sitting opposite the naked woman too when I was at the restaurant last month! This very 'non-straight' man didn't have any problem with it though. One might easily say Siam Reap is not for suffers of Mastrophobia, but a little bit of cultural decor never hurt anyone! We had a satisfying meal at Siem Reap, although I feared for how the night was going to go after we turned up and they'd lost the reservation I had made the night before! Fortunately we were seated anyway. For the two of us, we had three entrees to share which was just the right amount; one of them was nearly cold whilst the other two were piping hot, so it would seem they got the timing a little off. But who can blame them? The place was heaving! In spite of the crowds we were soon served after being seated, and the food flew out the kitchen after that. Good stuff. Points too for serving the entrees on one platter rather than just making our table cluttered with plates - many places would. It was a little thing that showed they were paying attention.
For our mains we had the BBQ Pork and the Grilled Salmon; loved the sizzling hot plate my pork came on. In the dishes we tried, having never eaten Cambodian cuisine before, my partner and I settled on the conclusion that it was closest to Thai, but a bit sweeter with heavier use of lemongrass. Something you have to try at least once though. We were much too full to continue on for dessert though, so we rolled out the door replete and happy. After some drinks with a friend on her birthday, she selected going here for dinner here with eight in our group. In hindsight, I ordered the wrong dish as I was underwhelmed with what I had (a Cambodian beef curry) compared to some of the others at the table audible sounds of delight as they ate. I do take my hat off to the restaurant, as we had pre-booked our table but a group of dinners that walked in off the street a few minutes had assumed our identity and taken our table. There wasn't enough room for both of us so they asked the impostors to leave. It was a busy restaurant, which is always a good sign. Review Feedback by: CJD [DineOut Admin] (136) 11th Mar 2010 Oh. My. Gawd! Imagine having the dangle-berries to pull off a table theft like that! And a large gold star to the restaurant from kicking them out again. Awesomeness.Review Feedback by: julia nina (5) 6th May 2010 I could not agree more. Well done restaurant staff! I doubt many places would have done the same.Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Nothing jumped out as particularly good or bad. Food was very nice, 14 people shared 10 dishes selected by the staff.Rice was plentiful and some roti were also ordered. The restaurant was very busy yet our dishes all appeared within minutes of each other. The drinks service was also good and the water was replenished without asking. We didn't attempt the desserts but I noticed for the basic icecream/fruit salad etc were priced at $11 which is up there.
The bill was itemised which was very useful when sorting out which of us had wine or beer, although we split the bill 14 ways we had to ensure non drinkers were not paying for others alcohol. The lady at the cash register had no problem with our " accounting" and did not question our breakdown of who paid what. I thought that was excellent. ( We knew we had split the bill accurately to meet the total amount).
So overall a pleasant evening in a nice atmosphere. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We love Siem Reap, and take all of our friends and visitors there. I would say this is definitely the best Asian in Wellington - the vegetables and spices are fresh and authentic, the flavours absolutely delicious.
Some of the 'safe' dishes aren't that good - stick to the more authentic stuff for a real dining experience. The plear salad is a favourite. The non-alcoholic cocktails are also amazing.
Service varies, and the restaurant can get loud with large parties. Try to book ahead, and ask for a table out of the line of traffic and away from large groups. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Four of us had a dinner here last Friday. We had pre-booked and just as well as the restaurant was quite busy. We shared some entrees of fried spring rolls, king prawns and a spicy beef salad. All were very good, and I especially liked the dipping sauce that comes with the spring rolls. For the main course I had my favourite lemongrass lamb chops. The chops varied in size (or rather thickness) and some were on the fatty side of the ledger. Nevertheless they were very tasty and I didn’t struggle at all to finish them. Others at the table had a beef with ginger salad, a green fish curry and braised beef with roti. All were good and there was enough beef and ginger leftover to take home a doggy bag. We all drank the non-alcoholic cocktails. On of our group was pregnant and the others wanted to enjoy the zingy flavours (ginger, lime, passionfruit, etc.) that they put together so well. Self and Mrs Fintim had wanted to go here for a while, and were fairly impressed by the traditional Asian decor, and welcomed/shown to a table promptly. The table proved to be not so great, as it was adjacent the traffic between the kitchen, the bar, and the dining room.
Although the place was not busy, the level of service, which had started out at very good soon dropped to below average as it started to fill up, and it wasn't packed.
The food was just OK. Initially tasted nice, but maybe the quality of ingredients wasn't the best. I don't know - that's the impression I have - as we both started to feel that eating it was becoming laborious but we were not really satisfied.
The deserts were a bit of a joke, unfortunately. Very authentic. (We've found most of the deserts served in SE Asia a bit of a joke, too, unless you go upmarket.)
With a bit of leadership direction/organising of the waiting staff, who were pleasant but seemed easily overwhelmed, and a bit more quality control in the kitchen, this place would be very good. As it is I won't be going there again. It needs a bit of an overhaul. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Went to Siem Reap for dinner on a Saturday, as it was so busy we were asked to sit at the bar and wait for a table. The Barman kept us entertained till then. The food was delicious and because there was so much of it left, they packed it for us to go, so money was left. The environment was very pleseant and i would surely go there again. :) Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Tried Siem Reap on Dixon street for the first time last thursday for Lunch. Had a delicious beef salad dish. Service was very efficient and friendly, and the food and drink came out promptly. Reasonable prices and will certainly visit again.... in fact I did the following evening for dinner! Again, impressive service and food. This is truly a hiddem gem, would recommend it highly, and definitely will return.
