Came to Delicious for a business lunch on Wednesday. It was a quaint little place and I'd never heard of it before, but my coworkers are big foodies so I knew it would be a good choice. We shared the bruschetta and even though the serving wasn't very big, it was really tasty, with an interesting mix of ingredients (cauliflower with capers and ...?!)
For the mains I had the Tortelloni of italian sausage and silverbeet with porcini & cream - which was incredible... I have never eaten anything like this before in NZ and was very impressed. And the portion was great, we were looking forward to desert which is 'on show' in the cabinet, but were so full after the mains we had to decline. I left Delicious completely fulfilled and happy, and look forward to returning... This restaurant definitely lives up to it's name :) Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I finally tried this top rated, award winning restaurants a couple of weeks ago. And it did not disappoint! I don't eat a lot of pasta, and rarely order it in a restaurant, but WOW!! Delicious has me converted! On the waitress' recommendation for my first visit, I had the Tortelloni of Italian Sausage and Silverbeet w Porcini and Cream. From my fist orgasmic bite it was obvious that this was without a doubt the best pasta I had ever tasted, and maybe one of the best dishes. My friend had the Ravioli of Pumpkin Amaretti Mustard fruits w/Sage butter. She lives nearby, so goes to Delicious often, and always has the same dish. I can see why - I don't even like pumpkin, but I could eat that dish all night and be happy. The service was outstanding, the waitress always available but not overbearing, and all the staff were really nice and very helpful. For dessert I had the Tiramisu, which was really good, if a tad rich after that pasta dish. The only thing I didn't love is the decor, or rather the lack of. The space is a bare white store front with some chairs and tables thrown in. It is serviceable and utilitarian, but noisy when it fills up and felt cold with the huge front windows and no soft coverings anywhere. But it was adequate and maybe that is how they can keep their prices so reasonable. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

At the recommendation of one of my colleagues we went to Delicious tonight for dinner. This is a trattoria-style Italian eatery that has a great vibe, good service and excellent food.
They don’t take bookings, but upon arrival there was one table for two that was available. The restaurant was busy throughout our meal and for those that came in when tables weren’t available they did not seem to have to wait for long.
We started with two pieces of Brushetta, one with vine ripened tomatoes and another with pesto, pine-nuts and artichoke. Both were lovely, although we did feel that this was a bit overpriced.
I then followed this with an excellent Zucchini & Provolone Ravioli that had a lovely lemon and sage butter sauce. Jane also had a lovely dish, the Gnocchi with Porcini mushrooms, tomato, parsley & parmesan.
For dessert I had the Tiramisu and this was deliciously light and flavoursome.
We will happily return. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We went to delicious on a Saturday night and got there right on 6pm to see it already filling up. The fact we took our two year old didnt seem to thrill the manager but ce la vie. The food arrived in a timely fashion, the bruschetta was lovely and inhaled by everyone else leaving me one piece!!
I had the orecchtete (sp.) which was lovely, I want to know how i can make broccoli taste like that! My folks both really enjoyed their meals, and the wine so kindly recommended and vowed to return next time they are in the big smoke. We took Tiramisu and a chocolate mousse type cake away to eat as missy was getting a little wriggly by this stage. Lovely!!
It was a little on the expensive side but the meals were substantial and tasty and the service great. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

You can't book at Delicious so come early (7pmish) so you won't be disappointed. Fresh, handmade pasta is the main claim to fame, paired with fresh, tasty sauces.
The food is delicious and the restaurant always has a good buzz about it.
Service is friendly and brisk - just perfect for the environment.
When I went there for a mid-week dinner last week I was happy to remind myself about this suburban gem. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Haven't been to Delicious for a couple of years, however tonight we had a superb meal. We deliberately didn't have the breads to start as were keen on having a dessert. However the mains were so filling we just had those, with the rocket salad. I had the veal shoulder pasta, tender meat, the other main was the mussel pasta - plenty of seafood. Simple, tasty, quality ingredients. Service, very good - friendly, informative and definitely no surliness we've read about in previous reviews. We visit NZ often from US and have always enjoyed good food and wine here. We called to make a reservation and were told that they dont take any, but for a Tuesday night there should not be a long wait. We got there around 8:45 pm and were told sorry can not take you, kitchen closes at 9:00 and there are no more tables available. Needless to say we were disappointed, my wife was curious about the whole thing so we decided to go back the next day for lunch.
It was not busy, we sat on the patio on the back. Ordered Focaccia, it was very nice and warm. We split a Trenette Pasta it was excellent. For dessert we had Strawberry and Limoncello which again was heavenly. Overall one of the best meals we had in Auckland.
Next time visiting Auckland, Delicious will be a sure stop for us. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I first went to Delicious many, many years ago, when it was still tiny and still cheap. It was a nice place to go to, and the food was always great. I never really experienced the horrifying service that others did.
A few months ago I returned to Delicious for an afternoon coffee and slice of cake. The staff were not happy with this arrangement despite the sign out the front proclaiming "coffee". They wanted to prepare for the evening diners. As the restaurant was empty, this was quite poor form.
Still, I had always liked the food so upon invitation went back to Delicious last night.
I chose the risotto as my main, which was a mistake. In my experience, there is only one place in Auckland that cooks a good risotto, and that is a gastro pub, not a restaurant. Like all other risottos I have experienced here, this was bland to the point of flavourless. With a bit of sugar, cinnamon, and a vanilla pod it could easily have been transformed into a rice pudding. I would have given the food five out of ten if my companions hadn't been fairly happy with theirs.
Dessert was tiramisu, which was fine but not spectacular. In fact, the desserts seem to have declined in quality from when I first used to dine there.
It's an okay restaurant, but the prices are ridiculous for the kind of slop-out-and-serve meals you get. The smaller sized pastas seem adequately large, so don't bother wasting money on the larger sizes, especially if you get salad and/or bread.
The vibe was a bit depressing, to be honest. I always feel a bit uncomfortable in a room filled with the upwardly mobile in their square rimmed glasses. This place was alarmingly monocultural and the clientele seemed wealthy and smug. That it was packed to the rafters on a Tuesday night is more testament to sheep mentality than the quality of the meals. Login to vote x1 x1 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

My friends and I have read great reviews about Delicious, and have tried to eat there a couple of times, but it's always been too full, and they don't take reservations. We finally did get in as we waited by the door until the opened one Saturday night.....we were very excited and our expectations were high. We were very disappointed with our meal. My two friends had the pappardelle and said it tasted like stew with pasta........they were not impressed at all, I had the italian sausage ravioli and it was very average. It was also very expencive for pasta. I have been to many italian restaurants, here and overseas, and I have always enjoyed it. We were not happy with our meals at Delisious, and we will not be going back. Sorry but in my opinion Delicious isn't so delisious. Login to vote x1 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I don't understand why so many people have bad experiences at Delicious. I have been there several times (old and new owners), all without incident. Some people love being offended I guess. The food is prepared by a talented kitchen, and while not gastronomically mindblowing, has always been, in my experience, well above average. Compared to others, this place is head and shoulders above. The Panna cotta, especially, is one of the best I have had in Auckland. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Three of us dined there Saturday 28th March, having decided to trek over from the North Shore as one of us had dined there several times, highly recommending their "To-Die-For", freshly-made pasta.
We were met by the Duty Manager, who was not particularly welcoming.
We asked to be seated at a table which was available, but were declined as it sat 5. After a wait, we were seated at a table for 4.
The Waitress was very pleasant & helpful.
It was a LONG wait for our food.
One main in particular ,the lambshanks--- disappointed all 3 of us, not tasty, like a bland lamb stew.
The other 2 mains were not up to the usual standard either- the pasta tasted a bit undercooked. The Gnocci over-done.
Our main gripe is the way the Duty manager handled our complaint--condescending--he refused to consider our feedback whatsoever, saying there could not possibly be a problem as it was their most popular dish, and had been for the past 8 years. Also, the kitchen staff had never changed during that time!!
Although I said I was not happy paying for that one main, he said sorry, there was nothing he could do!!
We had intended having desert, which did look delicious, as it was on view to us from our table, in a chill cabinet.
We wish we had just had desert & coffee--I know we would have gone home happy then!!
Unfortunately, due mainly to the duty manager's treatment, we and family, who visit Auckland often & have become regular patrons, will now not be returning, & we will stop recommending it to friends. Review Feedback by: Get Got (14) 9th Apr 2009 For what its worth, and not in any way to belittle the unfortunate experience this reviewer had, but we've actually found the attitude by the manager to be much better since the place changed hands a year or so ago. I can, however, corroborate the occasionally maddening wait times for food. Clearly, this is not a place to go if you are in a hurry.Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I arrived early and took a seat while I waited for the rest of our group. Not once was I approached by any staff to see if I was ok. When finally I was approached, the staff member was indifferent to the point of rudeness. It was never my intention to put him out by turning up at their business, but there you go. When the rest of the group turned up we were seated quickly, but then began our night of waiting. It took an age to place our orders as none of the staff would catch our eye as they wandered past. In the end I near on accosted one to place our orders, but was informed that he could not take our order but he would send our waitress over - this didn't bode well as she was one of the staff who kept wandering past. We waited around 40 minutes for our food which was nice but nothing spectacular (two risottos, ravioli and paperdalle). Then we waited for someone to clear our table. After 15 minutes of waiting we had neatly stacked all the plates on our table. Then we waited some more. And some more. Finally the plates were taken away without so much as a how was your meal, sorry for the delay, can I get you anything else. Self help seemed to be the theme of the evening. The best experience I had with the staff was when I went to pay. I wasn't sure if that was because they were getting my money, seeing the back of another pesky customer or a mixture of the two. Review Feedback by: codaly (1) 6th Apr 2009 I approve of this review as 3 of us dined there the week before--Sat. 28th. It must have been the same staff member whose manner is bordering on offensive.Login to vote x2 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook« There are reviews older than 18 months, click here to show them » Add your review to Delicious Restaurant30,083 views
