Me and my friend went to this restaurant last month. The foods are good, but the wait staff were over friendly. They asked us to how them our ID when we order beers, but he checked our name and guessed where we come from. And he asked us too much questions like.. how old are we, where do we live, how long we are living in Auckland, do we have a boyfriends etc etc before he took our order!! We told him we are married, and we have children, then he stopped to being friendly and just changed to very un-friendly. What a rude.. I love their foods, but never go back again.. Well it ain't flash, but the food was good in a workmanlike way. The service was excellent- friendly and efficient, although we did have to ask about the whereabouts of one main. The poppadoms were a bit elderly but hey, they were free. I had a 'Mysore Chilli Chicken' never tried it before, it was good, just the right Scoville rating for my buds. I can see what people mean about the decor, it wouldn't take much to tart the place up a bit. Anyway- OK feed, good people-watching, better curries in town. GOOD POINTS: Excellent quality curries and naan. Large portion sizes. It is value for money. The staff are friendly and nice.
BAD POINTS: boring, uninspiring decor. How hard can it be to attach a few Indian tapestries to the walls or even a photo of the Taj Mahal! Also no Indian music playing, which I think is a must for any Indian restaurant. Atmosphere enriches the experience and is so easy to achieve.
Very slow service. There were only 3 tables of diners but it took at least 20 minutes to receive our food.
OVERALL, great food, but drab restaurant and rather slow service, which is not that important to if you want to chat or drink beforehand.
I would recommend this place based on the portion size and food quality. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Hi there,
I have been to many many Indian restaurants in New zealand but I never had this kind of an experience before. i went to Saffron an indian restaurant In Ponsonby (Auckland). Just to let you know a little bit about the restaurant,This restaurant offers buffet service on weekends for $10.90. Pathetic is the word that comes to my mind when I think about the service offered by them. Not enough space for existing customers to sit but the restaurant staff was still letting new customers some in and wait. Restaurant was full but there was nothing much to eat because of the slow service. We were asked for a glass of water after being in the restaurant for 10 minutes. waiting time for a Dosa was about 10minutes, customers who came after us were served by the staff first becauase of some reason. There were a few cold idlis and vadas but no sambhar to eat them with. last but not the least even loos at a beach are cleaner than the ones in the restaurant. Overall a waste of my time and money.......
My advice to the owner, if you cant handle the rush dont offer the buffet service............ Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This place is fine for a good-value Indian feed, just don't come with great expectations of atmosphere or service. My partner and I couldn't believe what we got for 70-odd dollars... a wine, a large beer and enough food to feed an Indian army. Our curry was lovely with plenty of tender meat. I don't think I'd order the Indian pizza again I'd just go for curries, naans, etc. We couldn't finish what we ordered despite both arriving ravenous.
