About time another review is added here. Clark's cafe has been a regular venue for when i don't know where to have lunch with the kids when we are in the city. For reasons that : we love their pies-light and flavoursome pastry with perfectly seasoned fillings, both the mince and cheese as well as the chicken variety; prompt, hot, well-made coffees; reasonable prices; and prompt, friendly service consistently. It is obvious that the owners of premises watch over the operation of the cafe closely. A good selection of cabinet savouries as well as sweets. They also have a cooked to order menu but i have not yet tried. There is a play area which will keep littlielies happy while adults chat. Plenty of seating although they can still be quite full during lunch hour. Well done for keeping it simple and we will keep returning.
I like going to Clark's. The bread is always so fresh on the sandwiches.
What let them down this time (why the score is so bad for presentation) is that the sandwich was displayed so it looks like there is lots of filling. When you open the packet all the filling is at one side. Such an old trick. I'd rather pay more for my S/W and have more filling. I got vegetarian and there was one very small piece of cheese in it.
The flavour was great and the bread delicious - but let down by a trick that just makes the cafe look like it's trying to cut corners / look cheap.
Hot chocolate was standard cafe from powder. Drink was served promptly and was nice and hot.
This is across the road from my office so I often wander in for a coffee and to people watch at the cafe. My favourite food is strictly winter only, but has to be the chicken and blue cheese pie. The pastry is perfectly flakey and crunchy, the chicken well falvoured and the blue sauce binding it all together outstanding! The calorie count is probably right up there but wow it packs an amazing amount of flavour for $4.
Tried the Clark's Cafe for the very first time last Friday for lunch. Wow.....it was busy there!! Its situated on the first level in the Wellington Century Library. The freshly made Panini I chose was very tasty. The counter lady had kindly heated it for me. Everything in their food cabinets had looked delicious. This is a cafe I'm sure to be dining more often in the near future. I might even join the library again too!!
