Expectations were raised by good reviews from the in-laws who had been previously. The dining room is tiny and you did need to concentrate on not evesdropping on the conversations around you. The table next to us was so close that my husband’s faux pas of proclaiming that if he wanted pizza he’d ‘go to Pizza Hut’ was clearly heard by the pizza-eating patrons sitting at it. On recommendation from the wait staff we ordered two of the chef’s Japanese appetisers ($10) to go with our garlic and parmesan flatbread. We were very glad we did order two as these proved to be a tiny dish of seaweed, one prawn wrapped in filo and cut in half, and four tiny strips of seared beef, each approximately half the size of my pinky finger. Barely a mouthful, particularly when sharing and seemed a bit odd, as surely it wouldn’t have taken much to include one of the steamed pork wontons already on the menu, and a piece of the sushi in the cabinet downstairs. The flatbread was tasty and generous although a bit on the tough side. Mains also proved to be confusing as the pork chops in ginger and soy and wasabi stuffed steak were generous in size, but the lamb in mint sauce was tiny by comparison. The pork chops were extremely overcooked and tough as old boots. The fourth dish was advertised as a warm vegetable salad with calamari and proved to be chunks of roasted potato and steamed vege such as onion and zucchini in a chilli broth. The calamari was tender but the potatoes were soggy from sitting in the broth and therefore not very pleasant. For dessert, the crème caramel was lumpy in texture and served with a small dish of melon that was mushy and seemed as though it might have been sitting there for a few days. Banana crepes were large and delicious (although more of the mushy melon), however the vanilla ice cream with black sesame sauce was a let down – a massive plate of icecream with black sludge piled on top. This could have been a beautiful dessert presented in a more restrained way, but the reality was altogether too much as the thick sesame overpowered the ice cream. The coffee and a piece of carrot cake from the cabinet were fine. We won’t rush back.

Thank you for your review, as one of the owners I would like to let you know that your comments have already been addressed. As far as the size of the cafe well we cant do anything about that, we have to work with what we have. The reasoning behind the variety on the menu is that we took over an existing pizza and pasta operation, so as we were getting feedback from their customers they wanted us to keep those items on, so we did and it also takes the pressure of an extremely tiny kitchen. The taste of Japanese appetisers are just that a taste and as you can appreciate the cost of producing those is higher than a flat bread. There is no excuse for over cooking the rack of pork, and the lamb dish size has been addressed, as well as the other comments. I must sincerely apologise for your disappointing experience and hope that if you do make it back our way you will enjoy your meal.
