We just had dinner at Sahara for mothers day (party of 5), and have been there many times before but tonight was a big disappointment, and we probably WONT be stepping foot through the door again.
For one the service was crap, the young girls were nervous, spoke very quietly. Came back twice to ask about what drinks we ordered. Then completely FORGOT about our drinks until we asked where they were about 10-15mins later. Then when we finally received our drinks, she could hardly hold the tray let alone pass them to us. (possibly because the tables are far to close together and she couldn't reach me) Two of us ordered the chicken fettuccine which arrived with large pieces of an array of capsicums through it, which for one was not stated on the menu and two (in my experience) should not be in the dish for a start as it no longer makes it a classic chicken fettuccine dish! The dish was Bland, with to much Cream Which just made me feel sick. All you could taste was cream. The chicken in our dishes was also very grisly. I always finish my meals, but I just couldn't stomach this one. Another of our dishes, the mango chicken, the vegetables were cooked in some strange flavour, dripping in oil. They were bland also, and not edible. To top it all off they when we went to pay they didn't even know the prices of things so had to consult the menu which prolonged the experience. So so disappointing. We try and support local business but this is what they offer us. Disgusting! Stay well clear! Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We had THE WORST experience on Friday night at Sahara.
We were a party of 12, arrived at 7.30pm and didnt get acknowledged until 8.30pm when they gave us some water...
We had to ask them to take our order at 8.45pm...
Our meals were still not out at 10pm... and when they did arrive, they all came out at different times, my husband was finished by the time mine arrived - I asked for a mezi platter for two and it came out missing things that were on the menu - ie only one dolmade, no green beans, two falafels, no olives and no feta... so I sent it back - THEN THEY FORGOT TO BRING IT BACK!
They totally forgot one of our meals completely, and a cricket was found in one of our salads!
4 people ordered the calamari as an entree - and it came out with 6 teeny circles of fishy smelling, rubbery calamari that was in a luke warm tomato sauce - so they got sent back saying we didnt want them... have photos to show how shocking it was.
All and all, it was pretty shocking, their drinks fridge was basically empty and they were really unorganised... Will NOT be going back EVER! Login to vote x1 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We just meant to go for a walk on Orewa beach and found a nice little surprise. Sahara restaurant is definitely one place me and my family will be visiting again. The food was yummy! My steak was just as I wanted it. Big and juicy with fresh vegetables on the side. Even asked for extra mushroom sauce and was not charged a cent more for it. My wife had the stuffed baked chicken and she couldn't stop going on about it. My three kids all had the feast of Greek (very meaty dish!) and they looked satisfied. The wines was very well priced and the desserts which we had were absolutely yum! Creme caramel, Chocolate cheese cake with our Turkish coffee for us and the usual ice cream and chocolate cake for the kids. Best part was that even though we had a lot of food and stuffed ourselves, the bill was still very very reasonable. To top it all up, the staff were absolutely wonderful. The food was slightly delayed, but considering that the place was almost full and how yummy the dishes were, it was well worth the anticipation. GO TEAM SAHARA!! We would definitely see you soon :) Login to vote x0 x1 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We recently went to Sahara with a group of friends for a birthday dinner and we were very disappointed with the entrees and main meals. The prices were up there considering the meals. All very dry and uninteresting. The wait person was nice/friendly and helpful but nothing could make up for the less than average food.
