Yes, we returned to Ace Wasabi "again" - friendly and attentive welcome and service - and we enjoyed a glass of Sake! Praising this particular place to our friends, we convinced them to come with us - and it started well, with delicious starters (except for the fourth starter to arrive 10 minutes late... we accepted it as the chef was very busy with Sashimi).
Unfortunately however the mains (all from the special Winter menu, recommended by the lady) were slightly disappointing - not only the Beef Teriyaki, but also the Prawn and Soft Shell Crab Tempura. Beef was not as tender as "promised" (and very small portion), the Tempura's rather bland - all in all an OK eating experience, but will have to think carefully before recommending Ace again to friends. Shame really, as the staff (and owners) are excellent hosts and the atmosphere enjoyable.

Went back to Ace Wasabi a couple of weeks ago for a quick meal before the theatre. Once again the food and service was great.
Had a special of a tempura sushi dish with mushroom, cream cheese and crab( I think ) that was really delicious. The sashimi we had first was beautifully fresh. We will be back.

Almost an "Excellent" for the entree and the mains, almost! Just felt that the Seafood Teriyaki was more like a Vegetable Teriyaki - not a lot of seafood nor fish - but lovely and tasty!
Also enjoyed the dumplings as an entree - very delicious indeed :-) Service was outstanding, very friendly, attentive and we felt very welcome! Back soon for another great meal at Ace Wasabi!

Had the privelege of dining here on Saturday evening, 6th February 2010. My mother has been a bit of a regular here lately and it was lovely that she was recognised by staff when she entered.
Very difficult to choose from the extensive menu. We had a selection of dishes which we shared between us. All the dishes were very flavoursome and fresh. Try the "rainbow sushi" for something a bit different to the norm.
Service was extremely attentive and professional. Great atmosphere.
Would certainly recommend, as being one of the better Japanese resturants in ChCh (and BYO wine which is a bonus).

Went here on Nov 21st, a night out.We got here not long after 5,30pm and only 3 other people in the restaurant and as usual with a Japanese one we were greeted and seated quickly. We went here after reading the reviews here and thought we'd go. I had the pork cutlet and would have it again in a flash (I picked this after reading about it in one of the reviews) The waitress that served us had very limited English and didn't understand when I asked for a fork, I ended up asking another lady (perhaps owner) and she got me one and was very apologetic that the other lady didn't understand what I was asking. We shared an entree the Gyoza, these were lovely as well and could have gone another serving. Hubby had the seafood yakisoba which is really enjoyed also and would have again. We would go back again and take our son next time as he loves Japanese as well.

We were over at the Casino for a great night out and spied the Japanese Resturant across the road, we decided to give it a try...
This place is fantastic! If you want to experience true Japanese hospitality then go to this Resturant.
The Waitress greeted us warmly at the door and gave us a choice of where to sit. We were able to see our sushi being made, and it comes out with the most spectacular presentation - in Japanese tradition.
My friend ordered the 20 piece sushi and I was surprised at the variety on the plate.
The menu offered many different things to try if you do not like sushi.
When we left we were thanked for coming.
The chef himself was working on more sushi and even said goodbye to us (this is what I love about genuine Japanese resturants) and you leave with a huge smile on your face. Its a great shame that other resturants do not follow the same trend and treat their customers with this type of hospitality.
If you want a fantastic dinning experience then head across the road to Ace Wasabi. It was much better than waiting in the line for the Casino Buffet.

The family and I dined here on a Saturday night; booking is recommended! Upon arriving the waitress greeted us very warmly and seated us straight away. Hot tea was also served immediately. The three of us shared the Philadelphia Roll (salmon, avocado and Philadelphia cream cheese), Tuna Nigiri, and Tofu Salad. The salmon and tuna were both extremely fresh and of high quality! Tofu Salad was also very fresh and well-portioned. Our mains were Chicken Cutlet, Beef Teriyaki, and Sashimi Don. The Chicken Cutlet was cooked beautifully; crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The special homemade sauce was most delectable! The Beef Teriyaki was delicious also. The Sashimi Don was thoroughly enjoyed as well; the salmon was extremely fresh and generous portions were given. Service is excellent, atmosphere is warm and friendly. Highly recommended! [by M.Y.]

Dined at Ace Wasabi on Saturday night with three others. Despite reading the previous reviews and having fairly high expectations, I was very impressed with all aspects of the meal. Having not dined on Japanese cuisine for quite a while, it was a treat to start the meal with a range of authentic nigiri sushi - with a range of fresh fish included. My companions also all thoroughly enjoyed their entrees. My main was the chicken cutlet and wow - what a choice! Was probably the most tender, juicy chicken fillet I have ever tasted! Was served with a fresh green salad as well as rice and Miso soup which come with all mains. Others in my party ordered the tempura (which had a tasty but light batter), the beef don (very nice flavour throughout) and the ginger chicken. Everyone was thrilled with their choices and no-one suffered from 'food envy' despite sampling all others. The service throughout the night was extremely friendly and genuine and meals were served very promptly. We finished with green tea ice cream which was the perfect end to a great meal. A very refreshing but not too sweet flavour. The meal had put us in such a good mood that we decided to go across the road and donate some of our remaining cash to the Christchurch casino!
