Came here for brunch on a week day. Had mushrooms on toast with a side of rosemary potatoes. The serving was generous and the food tasty. Good coffee and good service. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

A persuasive young man convinced the 6 of us to come in for dessert, offered space for smokers (none of us smoked) and then said there was a nice big table inside that would suit us well. In we went, to the rather dim interior, were given menus and soon proceeded to order. We are then told there is no mudcake (very disappointed) and no tiramisu. But there is a good cheesecake. We change to 2 creme brulees and 2 La Dolce Vita. In the meantime 3 of our 4 drinks arrive. We ask for the other one and it arrives soon after. We are then told there is only one La Dolce Vita left. But there is cheesecake. We still don't want cheesecake, so the two after the Dolce Vita will share it. After a few more minutes, waitress returns to say there is only one creme brulee! This is at 1030pm on a Saturday night, with both Cats and the NZSO finishing around this time - surely they would have realised a lot of people would be after a bite to eat? One friend relents and orders cheesecake. The food: bruschetta ($8.50) - two slices of ciabatta with rather floury tomato, and lots of cheese. Chips ($7.50) - nothing wrong there, pina colada ($12.50) and iced chocolate ($6.50) went down well. Desserts (all $9.50) - creme brulee is cold, rather tasteless and the thin sugar top is burnt, turns out the cheesecake was better! La Dolce Vita is rich but definitely a hit.
I would be prepared to give this place the benefit of the doubt and try it at an earlier time (at least then there would hopefully be more on offer than cheesecake!), but I was not impressed with four desserts unavailable and this not being made clear to us when we were given menus. Italian-style reataurant in the Chancery complex in central Auckland. Friendly welcome, comfortable surroundings but looking a little worn; for lunch the menu ranged suspiciously widely for all the offerings to be freshly stocked but my calamari salad offered crisp greens, good squid and was well-dressed with a chili dressing. We love this Restaurant and have been back three times! Great food, beautiful environment in the middle of the chancery. The last time we went there was a singer playing the guitar which really made for a magical night. Keep it up guys, we love this place!!
