Myself and my partner went here 5 days ago and the meal was excellent. We went again tonight and was even better. On the first night it was very very busy (tues) Our starters came out within 20 mins and the mains about 10 mins after we finished this. Both were very nicely cooked (scallops for starters and steak for mains) Service was really good considering how busy it was.
Tonight(Sun) was a bit quieter. The service again was very good and the quality of the meal was excellent especially the seafood chowder as a starter. Antipesto was very tasty with a varity of flavours and textures. Again tonight the steaks were perfect. Recommend to anyone wanting a tasty, quality and good value for money meal. Excellent!!

After reading some not so great reviews we were a little dubious about trying here, but as we had a 2 for 1 voucher we picked up from our accommodation, we thought we may as well give it a go. We went in expecting something average but were pleasantly surprised. It was a packed house on a sunday night over a queens birthday weekend and we walked in without a booking. We were told there should be something available in half an hour...and there was. I ordered scallops and my partner the king prawns for our entree. Admittedly the scallops weren't the biggest, but were expertly cooked and tasty. At around $15 for half a dozen, not bad value. The king prawns were big and also very tasty! Our mains came out very promptly after our entrees. Considering how busy it was we thought we would be waiting much longer! Both mains were delicious and generous portions (500g of rib eye steak...slightly over cooked, but yum!) The service was fantastic by a (Welsh?) waiter, so much so we even tipped him, almost unheard of as a kiwi! Another fantastic bonus was they don't charge a thing for corkage with our BYO wine! Excellent. Very happy overall.

I find it difficult to understand how the reviews for this restaurant vary from excellent to bad. My partner and I dined at the restaurant with visitors recently and two of us later had upset stomachs. The scallop entree was cold and the scallops were the smallest I have ever seen. The Blue Nose (fish) main was obviously prepared with thawed fish which was overcooked. The vegetables were almost raw and the whole dish was not as hot as it should have been. We all considered that the prices were excessive considering the quality of the food. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will not eat there again.

I went along to Amphora a few weeks ago with a group of 20 friends. Normally when we eat out in such large groups we are used to our meals being served at differnt times and sometimes 'not quality standards' due to a rushed job. On this particular night we were very impressed. All of our meals were out within 5 minutes of each other and each of our meals were delicious!!
I would definately reccommend Amphora to anyone!

There were two main issues with our dining experience at Amphora.
The first issue was with the Seafood Chowder. It was ordered by 2 members of our party of 6. One bowl was presented with almost no pieces of seafood in it and the other had lots of seafood in it, however the centre piece, a whole mussel, was unopened. When we pointed this out to the South American waitress, she couldn't understand what the issue was? The chowder was eventually replaced with one that included an open mussel, however the other member of our party who had the bowl with hardly any seafood in it was left feeling a little short changed.
The biggest issue of the night was with the dessert. I ordered Boysenberry Cheesecake on the menu at $10.50. I was served a flat square of processed dessert straight out of a Crofters or Sara Lee catering pack. I confronted the shorts, jandal and tea shirt wearing cook through the open kitchen service counter who admitted it was bought in. I insisted it was taken off my bill but I still can't believe this was deemed an acceptable quality of dessert to be served in this style of restaurant by the owners.

We went in for coffee at 9.30pm and the restaurant was only a 1/4 full. Sat down and ordered. A minute later the waitress came back and said "Sorry we don't do just coffee's" "You have to order a dessert or meal" I can understand if the place was really busy and we were taking up seats, but it wasn't. Plus we would only be there for such a short time. With a terrible attitude like this we won't go back for dinner ever.

Went to Amphora for dinner. We were seated straight away and given menus. After waiting 30 minutes with no service we stopped a waiter and asked if we could order. He said he was busy and would get someone to come. Another 15 minutes and no luck. We finally manage to stop another waitress who agrees to take our meal and drinks order. Both ordered fish from the specials board. Our meals came out very quickly, but fish was way too overdone and had fish scales on them! Tried to ask for our drinks but waitress only replied "good luck with that"! Finally got our drinks (in dirty glasses) as we were getting up to leave. Overheard another diner warning a young couple who were about to enter, not to bother going to this retaurant.

Have been to Amphora's a few times and have really enjoyed the meals, this time however has been a let down.
We were seated immediately and ordered drinks at the same time, but we waited an hour for our meal! My partner ordered the lamb shank that tasted bland and like mutton, they had been boiled not baked, the mashed potato was rank, having had the same meal last year which was divine this was a complete letdown. I ordered a steak/peppercorn sauce that looked like a orange sauce and was very sweet. The steamed veges were very nice tho, if not a bit crunchy. We were never asked once how our meals were, I left feeling very hungry and disappointed, I went to burger king to fill me up, and came home never to return there again
