My husband and I had a lovely meal here. I had seafood chowder which I enjoyed but wasn't the best I've ever had. Rex and roast lamb and declared it scrummy. I agree with the light when it comes to reading anything. The service was excellent particularly the young gentleman who gave us a history of the restaurant. Shared a plate of bread and dip for entree. The bread was perfect and a good selection. The dips were tasty and the flavours were a great blend. All three of us had different mains and not one of us had any complaints except we were very full. Sat outside in the court yard and enjoyed the last of the summer, sun away from any traffic noise which is a bonus in any town. The service was great, we had time to chat and enjoy a leisurely meal. I think this restaurant is another Northland secret. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This was the first time we had dined here. We had experienced a few bar functions and live music here before, and were suitably impressed.
The building was originally the Public Trust Office, and has been tastefully restored maintaining the high ceilings and pillars. However there is also plenty of different spaces and booths to provide a more intimate atmosphere as well.
The service was excellent, waiter was knowledgable about the specials and the bar manager gave us great advice on a wine selection.
The food was divine and a good size. Three of our party ordered the fish of the day - macadamia encrusted hapuka on a mussel fritter with a seafood kebab (prawns, scallops, etc). It was perfectly cooked and the flavours worked well together. I ordered the chicken fettucine which was not too heavy or with too much sauce. Seemingly a popular place. We dined on a tuesday night without a reservation and they just managed to find a spare table for us.
A beautiful old building.
Good attentive, if rather camp, service.
We both had the steak which was excellent and a fine bottle of vino.
Highly recommended. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook« There are reviews older than 18 months, click here to show them » Add your review to Salut Bar & Brasserie[2,040]
