My partner and I had dinner at 7:15 pm on a Saturday. The experience was brilliant. Our attractive waitress was cheerful and was pleased to make a special request to the chef on behalf of my partner to substitute tomato sauce for a cream reduction sauce on her Gnocchi. The switch was made and tasted great. I had the eye fillet which was served with a trangular wedge of thinly sliced, garlic and creamed potatoes. The veggies were impressive: three colours of baby carrots plus broccoli and califlower! They tasted fresh and crunchy when eaten. Our meals arrived hot. My medium-rare steak was large and perfectly cooked. We were full enough to only share a mango cheesecake dessert, which was accompanied by house made ice creame rolled in coconut. WOW! It was not an inexpensive meal, but it was very fairly priced, when you consider the quality of food, portion size, and great service. Let see, there must be something I can complain about....place needs a NZ beer on tap at a reasonable price. Overall this is a great establishment with a Euro-flair. Recommended highly. My husband and I had a lovely meal here. I had seafood chowder which I enjoyed but wasn't the best I've ever had. Rex and roast lamb and declared it scrummy. I agree with the light when it comes to reading anything. The service was excellent particularly the young gentleman who gave us a history of the restaurant. Shared a plate of bread and dip for entree. The bread was perfect and a good selection. The dips were tasty and the flavours were a great blend. All three of us had different mains and not one of us had any complaints except we were very full. Sat outside in the court yard and enjoyed the last of the summer, sun away from any traffic noise which is a bonus in any town. The service was great, we had time to chat and enjoy a leisurely meal. I think this restaurant is another Northland secret.
