Went here for a 40th birthady party last night with 30 others, had use of the function room upstairs. We had a set menu so about 4 things to choose from for mains and desert. Starters was bread, but we only got given enough to feed a small mouse. Could have done with heaps more, was really nice though. Took about an hour to get all the food out but considering how many people we had and the allblacks rugby game was on downstairs - it all came out together, which was the main issue. So full credit. I'm glad I ordered the rib-eye steak, mmmm mmmmmmm ! Perfect. Thank you chef/s :) again, wasnt the biggest meal in the world, but it was very tasty (noticed one person sent their under-cooked chicken back) but out of 30 meals, that was the only drama. I had a pavlova desert and it was awesome too, yummy ! Very friendly staff & a very pleasant environment. They had a bar upstairs in the function room too and aparently it's free to hire. Awesome. Will definately b back =) Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

We had dinner at this restaurant in a decent-sized group and the whole experience was ok. The service was helpful and prompt and the desserts were really nice. The mains were ok with my fish & chips hitting the spot, but my partner thought his steak was a bit bland. The portion sizes weren't as generous as I expected from pub food, but all in all not bad. so on earlier on in May i had the awesome experence of having a private function at this monteiths which was a baby shower held in their function rooms upstairs. we have frequented this resturant for 3 yrs and every time that our family comes from australia this is their resturant of choice.
right from the first phone call (and i made alot of phone calls to alot of resturants throughout the wellington region) i was impressed, Stefan the resturant manager was amazing with all of my questions and needless to say very patient..lol.
I met with the pastry chef there as i was having a desert and coffee evening and she put together an amazing menu of buffet desserts which was made hard by the fact that i had requested all eggless desserts which is quiet difficult but this was no chore for them. they even allowed me to come on a seperate occation a week before the event to sample everything which i really didnt need todo becuase everything was at a hugly high standard.
all of my quests where very impressed and well taken care of, the bar was maned upstairs by a lovley girl who helped us decorate before hand. needless to say i had the baby shower of the century!!!
with an amazing amount of left overs value for money was superior and near 1/2 the price of other places i had inquired about.
highly recommend to all for functions or dinners as we have always enjoyed the atmosphere and superior service i have worked in customer service for over 10 yrs (and im a very fussy customer) and this was by far a very impressive experience all round. 4 of us went here on Sunday for dinner around 8pm, weren't too many people dining and we were told by the chick at the counter that the chef had said that he wasn't doing any more main meals and we could only order from the limitedar menu. We were just about to bail when the duty manager came up to us and said the chef had no right to say that and ofcourse we could order main meals. So we sat down and was promptly served. Lots to choose from and we all ordered the sunday roasy special $15 including a desert. We also ordered 3 lots of breads and a bottle of wine. The food was all perfectly cooked (a little on the small side) but for $15 it was an absolute bargain. Nothing special, but really nice. Desert was a chocolate brownie, was really nice but could have done with a scoop of icecream/cream or yoghurt, it came with 4 berries (I guess that's just how they do it). All, the food came out together and quite quickly. Really nice bar/restaurant, comfortable seating, friendly staff I'd definately go back. 3 of us dined here for lunch yesterday. We seated ourselves as there was no-one there to do so when we walked in the door and my friend was on crutches. When a waiter did come over we were 'jokingly' admonished for seating ourselves, but with a serious undertone ("So you thought you'd just sort yourselves out? Good thing I saw you here to bring menus over"). Not a great start.
Food came in a timely fashion but quality was inconsistent. My friends mussels were delightful, my other friend's chicken on her salad was a bit rubbery, and my seafood chowder was AWFUL! It tasted of nothing. The consistency of the 'creamy chowder' was like gelatinous wallpaper paste and the taste could only be likened to a very, very bland white sauce which, in turn, masked any flavour of the seafood that may have been lurking therein.
Afterwards, when we were asked how our meals were, I informed the waitress that mine was really bland and not very enjoyable. She looked a little embarrassed, muttered sorry and cleared the table. No real gesture at all to make up for it.
Wouldn't go back. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Terrible terrible service and very very rude staff. I wouldnt recommend every going there. We went along one Sunday evening after a long day to experience shocking service. We complained to the owner who didnt see an issue. Dont ever dine here! Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Popped in for a drink and decided to have lunch. I ordered the chicken salad and it was heavenly. The presentation was amazing and had everything described on the menu was on the plate..... And even arrived without dressing which I asked. This has been one of the best chicken salads I have ordered. My hubby had the paua fritters and he enjoyed those. Lots of paua in them which he was happy with. The pricing was excellent and we will definately be going back Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I think the highlight of the meal for us was the kids' food. My girls ordered hot dogs and chips and pizza and chips. The shoestring fries were delicious and very generous. The $9 price included a soft drink and an ice-cream sundae which was also a very generous size. Unfortunately the adult mains were not as good. We both ordered the game meat pie. I had a similar pie at another 'pub' which was fantastic so I was eager to order something like that again. It kind of had a strange taste and the meat mixture/gravy was so thin they give you a spoon to eat it with! Some of the pieces of meat were also quite fatty and I had no idea what I was eating half the time. My husband enjoyed his pie more than I did but also commented on the fattiness. So a bit of a mixed bag really but I doubt we will be back. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This would have to have been the worst meal I have had in years. Arrived on Sunday night and even sitting up the other end, we could not hear ourselves over the loud guitar playing singer belting out "american pie". YIKES! The food was unoriginal, overpriced and horrible.
My hot pot was a sad "cat-food" slop with a flakky pastry crust sitting an inch above the meat, steak's were chewy and overcooked, pork ribs were burnt and sauces were inedible. Meals arrived for our group at three different times.
Dessert's tasted like them came from a packet and the cheesecake was a revolting coffee/chocolate mess.
Service was random: the waiter badgered our group to order six times, then left half the plates on the table when clearing them away. When I took them up and put them in front of him they finally were taken to the kitchen. There seemed to be a real aggression to the staff so our feedback was ignored.
The only meal one of our group enjoyed, was the burger. Mana desperately needs a good family restaurant, this lazy overpriced bar is not good enough!
I will never - EVER waste my money here again! Review Feedback by: Mr Shin [DineOut VIP] (228) 1st Nov 2009 Plenty of nice places 2 eat in Plimmerton =)Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

As there is a jazz night on the first sunday in the month we went to have a look. Got there resonably early and ordered our food before any other people arrived. Well we waited and waited. I eventually arrived and was fair. Chips were soft as if they had been left out too long and no lemon with the fish. Average sort of meal. Nothing great. I had to go up and ask for menus about 20 minutes after we arrived, we weren’t too worried as we were enjoying ourselves. Kids were starving though.
I ordered a ceaser salad. I had admittedly decided in the shower that morning that that was what I wanted to have. So I had all morning to look forward to it. My salad was made with mescaline mix (not the salad leaves as promised in the menu (there was another salad identified as using mescaline specifically) a whole boiled egg bumped on top! And very little bacon and parmesan cheese not to mention horror of horrors little bits of tomato scattered through it! I was so disappointed, silly me for building myself up. My dad ordered a pie… well it was stew with a wedge of puff pastry on the side not a pie at all! Kid’s meals were great. But you have to work pretty hard to mess up processed chicken and chips. Although my daughters kids bolognaise was made with blackish greenish pasta that she was grosed out by. Coffees were nice too. The ribs were rated highly by those that had them. I think that their food prep and service need some work though. Just a little care goes a long way. there seemed to be little to no care especially with the food. Went with a friend last night, typical pub atmosphere, with typical pub food. I didnt expect anything great, and didnt receive anything great. I had the pork terrine for entree and paua fritter for main - both were average, but edible. Most of the staff are young and friendly and try hard. Best thing about this place is their location, it suits my friend and I as it's half way between where we live. Would reccommend newbies visit in summer, as sitting outside is lovely (just block your ears when the big freight trains pass).
