Make no mistake this is a pub that serves meals. Remember the old school Hanmer when there was only this place and the pub by the heritage. Not much has changed in here.
Atmosphere was pretty good lots of people but food area seperate enough that not over whelming.
Prices were VERY reasonable and meals better than expect. Garlic bread is cheap and GOOD!!
Service was OK there were a lot of locals in the bar so you did feel that sense they were "more important" Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This was the first of the restaurants we visited on our recent trip to Hanmer Springs.Although "restarant" would not be the word I would use to describe the establishment, (it is most definately a pub in every other respect than the sign on the door) the meals were served relatively quickly and were probably better in both quality and quantity than we expected for the price. The service, although prompt, was impersonal and slap dash (again, you get what you pay for).We asked twice for sauces and felt like we were being regarded as an inconvenience as soon as we parted with our cash (you pay in advance when you order your meals). As I mentioned before the food was simple yet tasty and filling.I had a chicken burger, my husband a steak and the kids had chicken nuggets.A very child friendly restarant, the staff were somehow able to keep their cool while constantly stepping over groups of kids which had camped out on the floor in various parts of the restarant, and there was a very well stocked toybox for the youngsters to play with.
To conclude, the place to be If my husband was to watch the rugby or the cricket with his male friends, not where I would bring my grandmother on her birthday night!Good value food, good value prices in a very roadside diner like atmosphere geared up for the male pubgoer.Perfect for a quick lunch when the kids are fresh out of the pools, and very child friendly. Thanks Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

If you're looking for atmosphere, noise and a filling meal with your beer or wine then this place will appeal to you. If you are someone who describes dining as "having a feed" then it will appeal even more because a feed is what you'll get. The meals are hearty and chips are just about guaranteed with most of the dishes.
The Alpine Village Inn offers no pretensions that it is anything but a pub with an enviable ability to get popular, mostly Kiwi-style meals onto tables quickly. The place was packed at 6 o'clock on a thursday evening in October and the Wait staff were quick, cheerful and incredibly hard working. It seemed as though every time I looked up there was a waiter whizzing by with a meal destined for a nearby table.
Our waiter even obligingly agreed to pose for a photo with the two teenagers at our table - they thought he was cute and had to get his pic!
As I mentioned at the start of this review, if you're looking for atmosphere then this is excellent in a rowdy family pub sort of way. Lots of kids of all ages bespattering the floors and walls with food as they grappled with their half chickens in gravy (well one or two anyway.....), old aged pensioners desperately trying to retrieve lost dentures in their pints of beer and tattooed, black singleted muscular males with shaved heads and of indeterminate age cheerfully responding with audible gusto to a joke perhaps...the scene is set, I hope you get the picture!
I had the chicken and bacon burger which was essentially a grilled chicken breast and bacon on a toasted bun with salad greens and fries, fries and more fries. I wolfed the food down, drank my two pints of Macs Ale with the determination of a thirsty lumberjack and was very tempted to let out a long, loud and liberated belch, as when in Rome.......however, this would not have been at all well received by at least one of the others at my table.
We had a good time and it was easy to relax in this very informal and happy setting. Will visit again for more beer and meat when next in Hanmer Springs. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on FacebookAdd your review to Alpine Village Inn[2,624]
