5pm - late CommentsWith some of the best views in Queenstown, this is fun dining South African style. Whether you're on the enclosed balcony or inside the chic funky interior you will enjoy this new style of dining. Described by a customer as having European flair, with South African flavour, American sized portions at New Zealand prices; -This is a dining experience not to be missed.
All our beef is grass fed from Southland and Otago and is aged for 6 weeks then flame-grilled in our secret basting resulting in it's unique flavour and exceptionally tender. Racks of ribs are served on a board and come supplied with a flame bib!! Seafood, chicken and vegetarian options are also catered for.
Make sure you leave space for a Dom Pedro!! Menus8280_28441_Flame_Restaurant_Menu.pdf

went here in the weekend for dinner, after I had made a booking the day before for 6pm.
When we got there we were taken to our table only to find it was half set. The waitress apologised and went and got the rest of the cutlery and glasses. She then took our drinks order, I saw they had Lindeaur Brut on the list and asked if they also had the Lindeaur Sav Blanc, she said yes we have Lindeaur AND sav blanc as on the list. Again I explained what I wanted and again, she didn't understand - I gave up!
While they do have a kids menu, I wouldn't say it's the best atmosphere for a family compared to other "family friendly" restaurants in Queenstown.
while we were trying to decide what to have for dinner, the lights got dimmed quite a bit, and as it was our first time there I wanted to read the menu!
During this time too, I noticed a group of people came in, who were well known to the staff and got exceptional service - there order was even taken before ours!
When the waitress did come over, I asked a couple of questions about different dishes, but she really wasn't very helpful.
Not long after our order was taken another waitress came out with our meals, which I thought was great, until I realised they weren't ours!
At the same time the guy that was working came to out and he stunk of BO! - if he worked for me I would of sent him home to have a shower!
when our meals did finally come, I was surprised it was just meat and potatoes (no veges or salad) which was supposed to be a baked potato, but they had been boiled then baked in garlic and oil - not what I call a baked potato.
while the steak was delicious with the sauce, the lamb was quite plain and really needed something else with it.
Overall, I was disappointed as I had heard great things about this place. I think maybe if the "special guests" weren't dining at the same time, the service would of been a lot better. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This was a chance pick as we were hungry, wandering around and couldn't be bothered walking any further so in we went. The place was very empty which was not a problem for us, the setting of the place was great and we chose a table by the fire. The waitress was friendly and polite and apologised for the bit of electrical work that was being undertaken, which again, we had no problem with. The menu was descriptive, the meals were large, very tasty and well presented. This place was a pleasure to dine at and if we are ever back in Queenstown, we will be going here again. I came here not long ago. I ordered the steak with a mushroom sauce and fries. The steak was delicious. Rested well, tender and seasoned. The sauce was divine. Creamy and rich. The fries were just good old fries but the seasoning on them was something else rather than just salt, so that was good. Service was great the guy who waitered us was really nice and attentive and clear. Had a Guava juice to go with my meal and was awesome.
Definitley will go back! I will remember the sauce always, was so good!!! Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

This place is a nice resturant but I was not happy with the steak that I recieved and the ribs were not the best I have ever had but they were good. The steak came shredded! When I order a steak I want a steak not mince...sorry. This was a while back now so I hope things have improved since. Service was good and the atmosphere was good too. Just need some improvements on the food department. Review Feedback by: Lochy (5) 8th Mar 2010 umm, you may well have had "jerked" steak as I cannot imagine any chef putting out a "shredded" steak. But I may be wrong

Went there for my birthday 03/03. It was the first restaurant in a long time that actually took us straight to our seat. I am used to showing up and loitering for a while before I can sit at the seat that I had already pre-booked hours/day before. Got seated, we were asked if we would like drinks, ordered those and the waitress came straight back with them. Usually we order drinks and wonder if we had ordered right before the person serving us took a 15 minute break. Once the drinks came back promptly, we ordered garlic bread, which also came to the table lightning fast. I think I was devouring the last bite of bread when the waitress shot over, cleared our table and wiped it down. The waiting staff remind me of the ball boys at a major tennis event with their table clearing speed. Ordered mains, my girlfriend ordered the fillet steak, I ordered the full rack of ribs. Usually when you order meat, you wait for ever but both of our plates came out within about 10 minutes. I don't know if their scales down there in Qtown are rooted or not but my girlfriends steak (which was supposed to be 300 grams) looked a hell of a lot more than the 300 gram steaks we have been eating here in christchurch. My ribs were monster!! cooked perfect and had an awesome sauce on them too. Ordered dessert after, we both had some sort of milkshake mixed with kahlua dessert which I can't remember the name of, but was sooooo good. Best ribs, service & dessert I have had. Period. we had just managed to book into Flame for New Years since I knew the place from 12 months ago. We showed up with one more person which despite the fact, that the place was totally packed, was not an issue and handled friendly without stress or fuss. The others had salads and burgers which were fine too. The steak I ordered was cooked just as I asked for, friendly and attentative service, I would always recommend flame and definitely return. I had the pleasure of dining at Flame Bar & Grill on 2 occassions (12th & 14th December 2009) with my family. We are a family of 5 Adults and 1 Infant and the exceptional service began even before we arrived. I had emailed the restaurant 6 weeks before our trip to the South Island, enquiring about Halal meat. Dawn, the Manager responded within 24 hours and advised she can organise this for us.. we were very grateful and excited!
We arrived at 5:45pm on 12th December 2009 and our table was ready, even with a highchair for the little one! We all had various cuts of steak, which were more than generous in size, (rib eye, fillet, monster t-bone) on both nights with sides of baked potato, chips, seasoned veggies and wedges! The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sauces (mushroom and pepper) were delicious!
At one point, our infant wanted to get out of his highchair and one of the ladies at the till walked over and took him for a lil walk around the restaurant and he suprisngly quietened down after that. The waitresses were super friendly and always ensured all was well with our meals and always with a warm smile!
The restaurant is extremely clean and the atmosphere is funky! Even the bathrooms had a funky design!
We dined here twice and when i do return to Queenstown, i would definitely go back! It's the kind of place where there's no hesitation when it comes to recommending because the food, staff and atmosphere are all exceptional!! 11/10! I am a local to Queenstown and first visited flame with a group of friends. We were met by the manageress and escorted to our table. We had booked in advance which was clearly needed as the restaurant was almost full! The smell coming from the open kitchen was sensational so we quickly decided on our meals. They came in extremely good time and looked amazing! I chose the Rib and Streak combo, not being a big steak eater I was weary but I have now been completely converted! The meat was amazing and so tender! We all finished our meals, even though they were huge and followed it up with a Dom Pedro. I'll recommend this to anyone!!! I've been trying to recreate it at home ever since but nothing can beat these guy's one's! We were too full to fit in any of the cocktails but I wish we could have because they looked amazing! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, its definately the best in queenstown!!! Review Feedback by: food.love [DineOut VIP] (152) 30th Nov 2009 I think you're making up fake reviews to give your own restaurant a boost. Also noted you're on Trip Advisor and apparantly from London..? One-off reviews on both websites. Hmm.. Matter of fact it looks like Trip Advisor has a string of one-off reviewers. I'd really hate to book this place based on fake reviews.Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

On a recent holiday to Queenstown, my husband and I decided to try this restaurant for a change from our normal haunts when down in Queenstown. We were certainly not disappointed. From the time we sat down to when we left it was a memorable time. The waitress was very attentive, food came out quickly, but we were certainly not made to feel rushed.
Food was fantastic. Atmosphere brilliant. In fact when we left the restaurant there was a group of people outside looking at the menu and we told them to go up as they wouldn't be disappointed. We have also recommended various friends and acquaintances to frequent this restaurant when we here they are going to Queenstown.
