Booked for 6 people for lunch today. 7 people arrived and they accomodated us, it was a little cramped but to be expected with the extra place setting. The place was quite noisy, not helpful for my uncle who is hard of hearing. The restaurant itself is pleasant although Mum pointed out that several of the artworks were crooked (and she actually got up to straighten them - shame!) On to the food - main complaint was that it took over an hour to come out. Bro wanted a bowl of fries but the fryer was broken so they did them in the oven which was fine. Mains had were creamy pumkin soup x2, chicken (bro loved it but I had a taste and it was dry), beef steak with blue cheese sauce and handcut fries (very good I'm told), eggs on Brioche, Eggs Bene with bacon and lettuce - lettuce? Yum hollandaise and the mushroom gnocchi. Every one went away satisfied. On the way out I sneakily bought an ANZAC slice with chocolatge and caramel - oh yeah, it was goood. It's a bit out of the way to become a regular but would defo come back. Meals about $16 - 23. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Really enjoyed this place!
Comfortable, sunny courtyard.. very friendly and fast service..
The food was delicious, especially the Bruschetta with marinated feta, caramelised onion, thyme dried tomato, olives and green salad on toasted foccacia.
The chicken dish was also excellent. Chicken breast is easily overcooked, but this was cooked perfectly. :)
I look forward to going back and trying more of their menu. It all sounds great! Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I actually had to change into looser fitting pants after having lunch at Beauvais about half an hour ago, so it is no exaggeration to say that you will not come out the same! The mix of cafe and restaurant is balanced very well with a polished outdoor garden area and even their own vege garden. What suprised us was the prices: the cabinet food all looked home made but to a very high standard and yet they were totally affordable: 50c for the most stunning hazelnut biscotti meringues (and I'm not even a meringue fan), and $2 for a decadent slice of chocolate tart. They looked and tasted just stunning too. Later we saw that the head chef previously worked at Rotherhams, which explains the high standard of all the food.
We apparently ordered the largest mains, a lemon prawn risotto and mushroom parmesan gnocchi. Both were outstanding, and the only reason they received a 9 rather than a 10 was because a leaf of rocket on my friend's risotto looked a bit sad. The sizing was more than generous and prices reasonable ($17.50 each I think). Iced coffees were huge too, and done perfectly.
If you want a lovely atmosphere and food to impress without putting your bank balance in distress, visit this place as soon as possible. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

I took my Mum here today for lunch after needing a "good food fix" to counter act a very ho-hum experience at another restaurant during the week. (Will review in due course). This has got to be one of THE Best places I have dined at in quite some time. From start to finish, it was difficult to find fault with anything. Service was friendly and prompt. Then the food...ahhh..the food...breads and dips to start (ciabatta, pesto and olive oil). The olive oil was rather superb with a very definite hotness to it, maybe from Manzanillo olives? I was going to ask but forgot, but it was pretty impressive. In any event, I knew I was tasting a quality olive oil. Mum had the mushroom gnocchi, something she had never tried before. She just loved it, and when I tried it I could honestly attest to it being the absolute best I have ever tried. I had this at an "authentic" Italian restaurant not so long ago and it fell way short on flavour compared to this taste sensation. Mmmm... my sirloin with blue butter, hand-cut fries and salad was superb...the steak was cooked to perfection, and the flavour of the blue vein really just made this dish. The dessert I had rated as really good, but changed it when I just had a sliver of chocolate brownie that I took home to have with coffee later. Upon tasting that, I literally stopped what i was doing to write this review. It was THE BEST brownie I have ever had!! Believe me, I've tried many and this one was out of this world - rich, chocolatey, smooth but dense, just how I love brownies. When paying, I noticed a little cutting (from the newspaper?) about the chef, and although i didnt get the chance to do more than scan said article, I did notice that the chef in question had formerly worked at Rotherhams (I hope I didnt misread that) and thought that explains why the food at Beauvais is so impressive. It could very well become as iconic and well patronised as Rotherhams. Other more expensive restaurants could really learn from this little gem of a place. One final word. You HAVE to try Beauvais for yourself, it would be a crime not to. Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Called in on Sunday for lunch-my husband & I both had the special of the day, smoked salmon on scrambled eggs with homemade bread. It was quite reasonable for $12.50 and a nice tasty lunch. The scrambled eggs were light & fluffy and there was heaps of smoked salmon. It was busy when we arrived so the wait staff reserved a table for us & when we returned 20 mins later, they remembered us which was good. The meals coming out and the counter food all looked homemade & tempting. A lovely suburban cafe & an asset to Avonhead.
