Stang House has some of the best Thai food Iíve ever had, and at great prices too! Their Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups are the best Iíve ever had, even better than anything I had in Thailand! And at $6-7 for a huge soup, you canít really go wrong. Their green curry and pork larb are also top notch. I wouldnít recommend their noodle dishes though. Although still decent, their noodle dishes are definitely their weak point.
My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive meal out in Lower Hutt and tried this place. The waitress was friendly and service was prompt. Mains varied from $12.50 to $20ish - we tried the lower end of that scale and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of flavours. I had a chicken rice meal, can't remember the name, which had sweet basil flavours and was lovely. My wife had the Pad Thai which she was impressed with. I had some too and it had a depth that you don't usually get in a satay-style dish in Wellington. There are beautiful embroidered murals and things on the walls and nice tablecloths - good presentation overall for a place so cheap (comparing to places in Petone that don't really attempt anything you could call decor, in the same price range). The lack of dessert menu could be addressed - yes we were the people who wanted mango sticky rice. :)
Regular to this lovely little Thai restaurant, have tried many in and around Wellington, Stang house being our favourite, and so we keep going back for more, always trying new dishes is always a highlight, even though Massman curry is one of the favourites, all dishes are worth trying.
Our family are regulars at Stang House. We love the relaxed atmosphere that it provides four us and our three children. The chicken wings are the kids favourtie and are ohh soo delicious!!! My husband is a fan of the Pad Thai and I think the Green Chicken Curry is awesome. The servings are enormous. Well worth a night out.
My first time dining at Stang House. What can i say... Pleasant and quick service in a nice clean and tidy setting. The food was excellent!! I had the Chu Chi Gong. This is a Curried Prawn dish and can be made spicy to your liking, I highly recomend this dish, it was a taste sensation.
The portions I found just right, and the prices very reasonable.
If you like Thai, or havent tried Thai before, I'd recomend to anyone to give Stang House go, you wont be disapointed.
Quite simply the best Thai food in Wellington! We have been eating at Stang House for over 3 years and it surpasses any Thai food we have eaten anywhere in New Zealand. The food is always delicious, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and the experience is just so enjoyable in your lovely little restaurant. Thank you and your lovely wife for the most amazing food and we will see you again soon Ė Luke & Michelle.
My husband and I are regulars of Stang House, we love the food which is deliciously unique in comparison to other Thai restaurants we have sampled. The service is super friendly and we like supporting the small family business that is Stang House, It has a really authentic homely feel that you just don't experience in more commercial style restaurants. The friendly personal feel compliments the service which is laid back and comfortable without compromising professionalism. As for the food its absolutely delicious!!! My personal favourite is Nam Toak (spicy beef salad)...simply heaven. If you are a fan of Thai food Stang House is the place to dine!! Couldn't recommend it more!

My partner and I came across this place out of the blue and straight away were both very impressed with the warm welcome we received.I ordered the Pad Thai and my Partner the Green curry gorgeous, authentic, mouth watering food, and the service truly reflects the friendly warm level of service of the orient. Will definitely be back for more.
Ordered kaeng keaw waan (green curry) and one special beef noodle soup "kuaiw tew nua", just would like to see how much different they from other restaurants I have been to. I have to say that I was very impressed by the rich taste and ingredients they put in. While thai green curry is regarded as "normal dish" in most thai restaurants, they not all the same, what make thai food unique is by combining herbs/ ingredients that create the unique taste. a simple dish such like the green curry I ordered said it all. The beef noodle soup was delicious too. It reminded me the taste of local restaurant when I was in Thailand, just not that spicy of course!
Very authentic thai dishes in my personal point of view. Have to say this restaurant is one of very few thai restaurants that serves "real" thai food from my experience. And the price is good for the quality.
The location is probable the main weakness of this restaurant, but hey, i truly think it is worth to drive extra 5 mins if you really want to taste the authentic and delicious thai dishes!
Stang House was recommended to us by friends and we were not disappointed. We went early in the hope of getting a table as we hadn't made a reservation and were glad we did as the place started to fill up not long after we sat down. The food was delicious, the fish cake entree were excellent and the Thai beef salad and Penang curry were bursting with flavour. Will definitely be back to sample more dishes on the extensive menu.
We found this place after reading all the great reviews and were not disappointed. Fantastic food, service was good and quick and the price was very reasonable. We had chicken satay sticks and prawns for starters and they were very yum. Mains were pad Thai and chicken with veges (can't remember the name but spicy). Both were large servings and nice and spicy. Would recommend this place, it's small and informal which made it even better. If your in Lower Hutt go check them out.
