went here a couple of days ago for dinner, as I thought it would be cheaper than the restaurant at the hotel next door we were staying at, but we were wrong!! - For a pub, we expected pub meals at pub meal prices, not restaurant prices!
most of us had the blue cod which was delicious. one person got the deep fried bar snack bowl, that was overcooked.
didn't go back the 2nd night, found somewhere cheaper! Login to vote x0 x0 | Add your feedback to this | Share on Facebook

Moose Bar is in a cracking location in Te Anau and as far as drinks and environment are concerned its great.
Mixed thoughts for me. Its basically pub food (Fish and Chips, Chicken Burger, Seafood basket that kind of thing) and Pub grub is exactly what was required after a hard day sightseeing.
Now I realise its a tourist town and we expected fairly high prices. However for the same money there are far better options in Te Anau.
I had fish and chips and for $24 I was given the most paltry of portions. 2 small fish on barely 10 chips with half the plate filled with salad. Very disappointing.
One of the group had the smaller portion of fish and chips - which is just one fish with chips. No issues with that at all and it served the purpose for half the price - but my "full" portion was basically a joke.
In saying that the fish was actually very good and tasted fresh. A chicken burger meal was deemed adequate as was a Fried basket of various delights.
Staff were attentive but the meals did take around 30 minutes and it wasnt particularly busy.
So, not too bad for filling a hole (just not the fish dish) but not at all value for money. Save your coin for other Te Anau eateries, which are still expensive but offer up far better value.
