Where oh where can i get a decent feed of fish n chips, we have tried all over Papanui,Merivale,Strowan nothing realy that flash.
A new place opened up in Papanui road, next to Cleveland , it was terrible. Went back and asked for my money back, which i got.
Just want a decent feed of easy fish and chips

We go to Dallington Seafood on the cnr of Gloucester and Woodham in Linwood. Their burgers are good. Their chips are good (and we always get a decent sized scoop). Not a fan of their standard fish but you can get the freshly crumbed or battered tarakihi, gurnard etc costing about $5 a piece.

Theo's... Riccarton Rd... Just up from the Caltex.

It's been a while since I've visited but to be able to get a massive piece of groper (+ gurnard terahiki etc) crumbed for $5 is awesome. Chips are also spot on.
Only complaint is that they can overdo it, so maybe ask for a shorter cook time.

Their selection of fresh fish is also impressive.

We used to live in Avonside -- before our neighborhood was redzoned and demolished -- and would get weekend fish and chips from Richmond Seafood on Stanmore Road (nr corner of Alexandra). Early evenings on Friday and Saturday it was packed with people waiting for takeaways; always was absolutely fresh and tasty, and very inexpensive. Run by a very efficient family. Of course, that was a few years ago now; the place is still there but I can't swear it is the same quality it was then.

Have you tried Main North Road Fish just in the group of shops off to the side of countdown northlands? It's always consistant.

Better throw my 10 cents in. Golden Fish Bar in Riccarton Rd opposite St Teresa's school, consistently good since I was at Varsity 35 years ago. Burgers average but F&Cs great and a good price.

@Mjh, Richmond Seafoods, prior to the quakes was our local chippy as well, we recently moved back to the area, had 2 battered cod and a scoop last Friday still as good as ever, same family still running it,

Try the F&C shop on Rutland Street - very popular with locals, good size servings, well cooked and friendly staff.

Very hard to find consistently good F & C. We've been going to Cutts Road for many years. The fact people often have to wait outside due to no standing room inside tells the story.

Fresco Fisheries at Church Corner are pretty decent for all kinds of seafood and still relatively inexpensive. They do have a tendency to stuff up large orders so always check your parcels before you leave. Good news is, if they give you something you didn't order you of course get to keep it and they'll re-make whatever they got wrong. I've ended up with some massive meals that way!

Our new fave is Blue Dolphin which is in Bishopdale Mall. We get the Akaroa Cod crumbed and share it because it is so big! With a scoop of chips and some corn nuggets it comes to around $10. Great value

What used to be the South Brighton Fish Supply has now reopened in New Brighton and is now called The Pier Fish and Chips. They are located at the Pier end of the mall next to Crema Café and their phone no. is 388 3568. They are the best fish and chip shop in Christchurch, well worth a trip across town for.
